By Jennifer Spears

If you are into prepping at all, you’ve surely heard of a “get home bag.” While that is a great idea for some families and situations, we’ve taken it in another direction and prepared a “can’t get home bag” for each of our vehicles. This makes more sense for us, since we have small children and almost always have them with us. Should an emergency situation occur, we’re stuck wherever we happen to be…we’re not going anywhere! How To Make Your Weekend At Home Feel Like A Vacation

By Jennifer Spears

Can you spend a weekend at home and really feel like you had a vacation?

Absolutely!

We didn’t take a “real” vacation last year…or the year before that…unless you count the two days our kids spent with Gramma and we spent in the hospital having a baby…and our next planned trip is still a ways out. Kinzua Bridge State Park: In Awe of Man’s Achievements and the Power of Nature

By Jennifer Spears

We’ve been doing this day trip thing for awhile…so it’s rare for us to find something new that none of us have done before. Last week’s adventure was a first for all of us though. We visited Kinzua Bridge State Park in Mt. Jewett, PA. We were not disappointed!

At first glance, it almost looks surreal, like you can’t possibly be seeing what you are seeing. It was overwhelming…to see the amazing engineering accomplishment of the bridge itself…and then to see it destroyed…it felt like a movie set, or a dream…not real at all. As a homeschooling family, we love day trips! Most of the time, the trips we take are mostly just for fun, but sometimes they are more serious. We recently had the opportunity to take our kids to see The Moving Wall…the half sized replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
