Green Lakes State Park: A Strikingly Beautiful Gem Hidden Away in Upstate New York
By Jennifer Spears
We are always looking for frugal fun for our family, and one of the best values that we have found is the New York State Empire Pass. For a yearly fee, it allows your vehicle unlimited access to every state park in New York State. Last week, we took a day off and visited Green Lakes State Park.
It was a new adventure for all of us, and we were not disappointed!
The park gets its name from the two glacial lakes that are gorgeous…and well…green! The color is spectacular!
We’ve seen documentaries on glacial lakes on television, so it was a wonderful surprise when we discovered that we could visit some so close to us.
The park itself is very inviting. There are plenty of clean restrooms, picnic areas, a delightful playground, an amazing swim area, and nature trails.
There is also food available for purchase and camping available by reservation.
Since it was a day trip for us, and a little later in the season, we didn’t swim on this trip. We did take advantage of the nature trails and playground though.
We also learned a lot, as the park has plenty of educational signs along the trails.
The highlight of the park though, is definitely the lakes themselves. Regardless of what we were doing, our attention kept going back to the water.
Truly amazing adventures can definitely be found close to home, and Green Lakes State Park was one of them.
We can’t wait for our next visit!
